Charlotte (Eggink) Viss, 92, passed away peacefully at Dock Woods, Lansdale, on Tuesday, November 4, 2025. She was the loving wife of 72 years to the late William E. Viss.
Born in Vona, Colorado, she was the fifth of seven daughters born to Dick and Mattie Eggink.
Charlotte grew up in Ripon, California and attended Ripon Christian Elementary and High School, where she was an accomplished public speaker.
In 1952 she married her beloved husband, Bill. Together they devoted their lives to Christian education, evangelism, and building healthy churches. They crisscrossed the country—living in Patterson, New Jersey; Long Beach, California; Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania; and Philadelphia, Pennsylvania—while raising their five children.
Charlotte worked for several years with Bethany Christian Services in Philadelphia. She and Bill also ministered internationally in Ireland, Kenya, the Netherlands, and South Africa.
After retirement Charlotte volunteered as a Chaplain at Doylestown Hospital and assisted Bill in his ministry as Chaplain at the Gloria Dei Lutheran Home in Hatboro, Pa.
Creatively gifted, Charlotte discovered a love for painting later in life. Her home became a gallery of her work—each piece a reflection of her joy in and skill with color and beauty. Even now, an unfinished painting rests on her easel.
Charlotte was beautiful both inside and out. Her deep faith shaped a life of love, care, service and hospitality. She influenced the lives of countless women and couples through her example and the ways in which she could press truth home with just a few words, a smile, a nod of the head, and a bowl of hamburger soup.
She clung tenaciously and joyfully in all of life’s circumstances to the promise of Ephesians 1:3 that “the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, (…) has blessed us in the heavenly realms with every spiritual blessing in Christ.” Her gentle words and faithful example showed us how to live in God’s world without worry and “let love abound”.
Charlotte is survived by her children, Norman Viss (Cyndi), Evelyn Smith (Robert), Stanley Viss (Rachel), and Carol Van Dyken (Daryl); she is also survived by 16 grandchildren and 33 great-grandchildren.
She is predeceased by her parents, her husband William Viss, her son Jonathan William Viss, and her great-granddaughter Nora Poor.
The family will receive visitors on Friday, November 14, 2025 from 1:00-2:00pm at Dock Woods Chapel, 275 Dock Dr, Lansdale, PA 19446, with the memorial service to begin at 2pm. Interment is private. There is no reception after the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations made in Charlotte’s name to Trans World Radio would be greatly appreciated. Click here to donate.
