Drill, Baby, Drill!

This slogan came often from the lips of Donald Trump during his campaign for president in 2024.

His MAGA crowd loved it: they cheered and shouted.

After all, regardless of what the reality is, “drill, baby, drill!” promises wealth for everyone.

As long as we have fossil fuel to burn, there are no limits to what we can build, transport and consume.

“Drill, Baby, Drill!” means “let’s destroy the environment so we can get rich”.

The 51% of Americans who voted for Trump value wealth over the environment and are willing to destroy the environment in pursuit of wealth.

And they are willing to let millions if not billions of people who have not contributed to the pollution of our environment suffer unimaginable loss so that we can keep our wealth growing beyond proportion.

Ironically enough, the inevitable environmental disaster which follows the drilling will mean disaster for our wealth also.

I’m not saying that every individual who voted for Trump is a sinfully greedy person – people voted for different reasons.

But America – and evangelicals – voted for “drill, baby, drill!” and in so doing are dooming the environment.
